Gabriel Oche Amanyi
Terry G is Nigeria's most electrifying and eccentric street-pop legend. Born Gabriel Oche Amanyi on March 17, 1986 in Benue State, a birthday he shares with his mother, he grew up in Lagos where his passion for music was ignited in his local church choir, under the influence of his mother, a devoted choir mistress.
He taught himself drums and keyboard before dropping out of Starfield Educational Centre due to financial hardship. Rather than quit, he channeled every struggle into fuel for the streets.
He began his professional career in 2006, first as a producer, then exploding as a performer with his debut album "Free Me." He redefined Nigerian street music with an unstoppable energy, controversial lyrics, wild fashion, and dancefloor dominance.
Described by The Punch as "one of the world's weirdest singers" and by Channels TV as "the craziest musician in Nigeria," Terry G wore those labels as badges of honor.
